Abbreviation Name Function
TAG Triacylglycerol A glycerol with three fatty acids. Released from lipid droplets when perilipin is phosphorylated.
DAG Diacylglycerol A glycerol with two fatty acids
MAG Monoacylglycerol A glycerol with just one fatty acid
ATGL Adipocyte triacylglycerol lipase Catalyses TAG -> DAG + FFA
HSL Hormone sensitive lipase Catalyses DAG -> MAG + FFA

Activated by PKA

MGL Monoacylglycerol Catalyses MAG -> Glycerol + FFA
Perilipin A protein that usually covers lipid droplets to prevent them from being broken down. After being phosphorylated by PKA they no longer protect the lipid droplets so that lipases can break them down.
