Organ: Heart

Description:

Significantly thickened chorda tendineae can be seen. The tendinae are also fused together.

Diagnosis: Chronic endocarditis with mitral stenosis

Causes:

  • Healing of endocarditis

Theory:

Like for acute myocardial infarction will the affected part of endocarditis heal after time passes. Healing causes the chorda tendineae to become thickened and fuse together. This chronic endocarditis is characterized by thick and fused chorda tendineae.

The valve in this preparation is the mitral valve. Chronic endocarditis can lead to mitral stenosis.
