61. Teratoma of the ovary (embryonal)

Page created on April 24, 2019. Not updated since.

Organ: Ovary

Description:

We see a bulky and cystic tumor filled with solid tissue. The solid tissue on the cut surface is heterogenous, in that it contains whitish, greyish and brownish tissues.

Diagnosis: Immature malignant teratoma

Risk factors:

  • Younger females (< 20)

Theory:

As this teratoma is bulky and solid there is no doubt it is malignant, however the degree of malignancy depends on its degree of neuroepithelial differentiation, which must be determined by histology.
